Coundn't agree more about Peluso. Waste of bloody time.
Also agree about Smith. Stay in the franking net!
Not sure how easy it would be to teach an old dog that new trick-- maybe pull him and put the back-up goalie in for a play if he does it? He's certainly embarassed himself and the team enough, make it embarassment for him alone.
Not sure where Janko fits on this team. I don't think he's ever played wing and the Flames made a point of developing him as a centre. With Derek Ryan and Dube, is Janko the 5th Centre? Maybe try Dube at wing I guess ?
At what point would you say mgmt acknowledges our goaltending problem and does something about it if Smith keeps giving up 4-5 goals a game? I know he just had the shutout but at 4 games in, that would be the outlier rather than the norm.
Truly believe we are one top-15 goalie in the league from a Pacific crown contention. That's really not hard to ask for either.
I don't really think it's very fair to label him as our "MVP" last year when playing the puck was a big part of his success, then turn around and say "I wish he wouldn't play the puck so much" when we are handed a few early losses the following season.
Smith has been doing this his whole career, doubt he stops now. That was a big reason I didn't like the Smith acquisition at the time.

Janko takes the faceoffs on the left sides and Ryan takes the one ones on the right. When Ryan takes the faceoff Janko goes to the left wing and Frolik to the right wing.

I like those lines. I haven't been able to catch a whole game for awhile. How are Valimaki and Rass looking as a pair?
Gio Brodie
Hanifin Rass
Valimaki Hamonic
I'd really like to see this as our top 6 d when Hamonic is back. I would be comfortable rolling those 3 pairings no matter who their opposition is.
Vegas showed the success you can have when you have 4 lines contributing. Imagine if we could get to the point where we could roll all 4 fwd lines and all 3 d pairings AND still expect to generate offence from every possible combination.

Stone until Hamonic is back? Or does Prout get in?

Stone over Prout.
Don't have an issue with Prout coming in the odd-game when we need some muscle, but we definitely shouldn't be dressing Peluso anymore (I don't think the gap between Prout and Stone is nearly as significant as the gap between Pelusso & Janko).
Be interesting to see what move BT will make (I'm all aboard the trade Stone train ). Trading with Ottawa still probably makes the most sense, but he (BT) might decide to go after a starter if things don't improve.
I don't see there being much of a market for established starters (that we actually want). **This is only if Smith continues to faulter--I don't think BT is going to pin our playoff chances on Rittich or Gillies--he probably loses his job if it backfires again.
Possibilities:
Craig Anderson (Two of the oldest goalies in the league? what could go wrong )
Varlamov (if Grubauer steals the starting job)
Howard (Detroit may as well go into full rebuild mode)
Korpisalo (would he be in that Grubauer/Saros category?)
Schneider (probably the most costly, but Todd seems to think his play is deteriorating which isn't ideal given his age & price tag).
Saying that Smith should not play the puck is mind boggling. He is one of the best at it and it helps out more than it hurts. He is going to have the odd bad play, something that we gotta live with. Maybe tell him not to play the puck if the D can get there easily.
Rittich just played a decent period of Hockey. Lets see what else he has.
I would rather see Peluso than Prout. And we just had a guy get his jaw broken for sticking up for a team mate. Don't want it to happen again anytime soon.
Last night we played against a team that wanted it more. If that penalty shot goes in its a different game. Smith was not at his best but we live and die with him this year.

Varlamov (if Grubauer steals the starting job)-We'd have to give up too much to get him (IMO)
Howard (Detroit may as well go into full rebuild mode)Ummm, no.-Vernon still lives in Calgary
Korpisalo (would he be in that Grubauer/Saros category?)Meh...
Schneider (probably the most costly, but Todd seems to think his play is deteriorating which isn't ideal given his age & price tag). The only one I see as a possibility... - Saskabush

That's what scares me, what are we going to have to give to get a Schneider or Varlamov.
It probably costs a combination of Hamonic or Brodie and Gillies or Parsons to get a deal done. New Jersey is weak on d, so there is room for a trade there IMO.
But hopefully Smith get's into form & our backups are consistent all year, then we can stop discussing this (until next year when Smith's contract expires )

Come on Peluso was in last night and Jonny was the pancaked and slashed all night. I seen the more energy and push back from Bennett than I did from Peluso. You might as well put a guy like Janko that might spark some offense on that line.
There's not a goalie in the league that's going to be successful the way that the Flames play defence and turn the puck over. Smith is not the issue. The Flames were awful last night.

Peluso did what he could, but no one is going to drop the mitts in a game like that. I don't know what the Flames feed showed, but the Blues feed highlighted Peluso trying to stir things up and the Blues wanting none of it.
He also can't be taking bad penalties when the PK hasn't been working and there's still a chance for a comeback.

Agreed but please refer to the Flames of the Kipper years....
04 wasn't a reality because our team was defensively sound...

I think they missed one in that Vancouver playoff series in 2004. I miss those days.
I think Schneider may be a target but not now. We have Smith, we arent trading him mid season so we are going to go on this adventure with Smith & Riitch/Gilles.
Riitch looked dialed in pretty good, like to see him start in Colorado. Depending on how things go, I see Tre going whale hunting come June at the draft & the targets will likely be Bobrovsky or Schneider. Depending how Bob wants (rumour the ask is 9.0 mill per) then Schneider may be the way to go.

I kinda hoped BT would go after Halak this summer.

Smith + for Bobrosky. Columbus is already rumoured to not sign him and wants to get something before he walks.
Just re read that, my anglish is not vary good rite now.
